ASTM F1089: Standard Test Method for Corrosion of Surgical Instruments.
This test method covers general test procedures and evaluation criteria for the corrosion resistance of surgical instruments intended for reuse in surgery and fabricated from stainless steel such as, but not limited to, those listed in specification ASTM F899. Distilled water, followed by a copper sulfate solution is used as a test fluid. A visual inspection, according to standard ASTM F1089 without magnification, is performed before and after the test to evaluate the result.
