Increasing demand for Galvanic Corrosion Testing according to ASTM F3044

As medical implants use more and more a plurality of different metals, the galvanic corrosion between the components moves into the focus of testing.

When using a plurality of metals for medical implants, attention must be paid to their potential of galvanic corrosion. The susceptibility for electrochemical reactions arises from two metals in contact to each other via an electrolyte such as saline and tissue fluids.
Hence, the potential of galvanic corrosion for medical implant gains more and more interest. The latest test series, performed in our test laboratory, comprised components of an implantable hearing aid.
Metals like tantalum, nitinol, copper or titanium are materials which are tested, as an example, in galvanic corrosion according to the ASTM F3044.
