ASTM F2077: Test Methods For Intervertebral Body Fusion Devices.

This test method covers the materials and methods for the static and dynamic testing of intervertebral body fusion device assemblies, spinal implants designed to promote arthrodesis at a given spinal motion segment. The implant is fixed between two plastic plates for dynamic loading or two steelplates for static loading. The preparation of the blocks is performed according to the outer shape of the implant. The axial loading can be combined with torsional loading. Pure torque is applied using an axial preload of up to 500 N. Torque tests require special attention concerning the shape of the plates used for load application.
