Impingement-wear testing of lumbar prostheses ISO 18192-3

This international standard defines a test procedure to simulate spinal disc prostheses wear under adverse impingement conditions.
An axial load and a time-varying angular displacement are applied to the lumbar prostheses to simulate repeated impingement between design features of the prostheses.
The prostheses are inspected after 1,25 x 105 cycles, 2,5 x 105 cycles, 5 x 105 cycles and 1 x 106 cycles. At each inspection, the wear of the prostheses is determined by gravimetric measurements.
